For those of you who may be feeling that there just isn't enough snow around, I offer the following pictures. About 5" of fresh snow was added to the snow already here at the lake when we arrived late last week. This has given me a chance to play with one of my toys, that being a very nice walk-behind snow blower. The air is crisp, the scenes are pretty, Tighe loves to romp and roll in the snow, and when we are not outdoors, we can be cozy in our cabin with a fire in the fireplace and look out at the scenery. Life is good.
For the last several years, the powers that be have elected to take the lake level down several feet during the winter in an effort to freeze out certain species of invasive weeds. So, the bay in front of our cabin is completely empty of water by December, and when it snows, the dead trees and irregular lake bottom make for an interesting terrain. Actually, we prefer it when the lake isn't drained so much, because then we get a nice, flat, frozen surface on which to play (skiing, snow shoeing, skating). Maybe they will return to that in another season or two.
We bought this cabin eleven years ago, after having visited it and several other properties in a February much like this one. The cabin looked then pretty much like it does now--snow covered and welcoming.
In fact, here are two pictures from our visit to the property in February, 2005. Kathie and the realtor are just walking to the front door in the first one. Then after touring the interior, I took a photo of Kathie on the lake side of the house–I had walked down toward the dock area to see what things looked like from there.
