Dads

So on this Father's Day I want to pay my respects to some fathers I love and admire. To begin, here is a father who is just beginning himself. Barely six months in the job, Mike showed us all from day one how proud and attentive he could be. Maia is a lucky little girl.

Pete gets two pictures because I couldn't find just one featuring both of the amazing grandchildren with which he has blessed me. There are few fathers as naturally suited to the job as Pete. The smiles on Henry's and Clara's faces prove how special he is.

Rob is already a wonderful father to Eleanor, and soon, he will be a father yet again to another little one. He loves all of his girls and delights in being called "Pop." I know they take delight in him too.

Anders has already learned to ride a bicycle! For me, this demonstrates the confidence and loving attention Will gives to him. Will is a steady, patient, nurturing, loving dad, and I think he relishes the role.

I have always had great regard for the men from what Tom Brokaw called the greatest generation. Of course, this generation included my father-in-law and my own father. My father-in-law was an honorable man who made me feel very much included in his family. Of course, I love his daughter very much and believe that he thought of me as his son.

Paula and I were more than fortunate to have the kind of father we did. He took to the role naturally and always seemed to want us near. He taught us so much about honor, integrity, love, and responsibility. We certainly cannot thank him enough. We love him and miss him so.
