Hosting Our Australian Friends Part II

After Livingston, MT, we drove south into Yellowstone National Park, the first ever of the U.S.'s national parks. This entrance arch has always been at the north entrance and was the site of the original point of access to the park.

We have seen lots of wildlife, including this and other elk at the park headquarters, which was a fort for the army when soldiers were first tasked with protecting and managing the park.

Margaret and Murray quickly became entranced by the park and its geothermal features.

In addition to elk, we saw lots of roaming buffalo.

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and its lower falls view was especially nice, even though we had to accept a less than sunny day.

We stayed in the historic Old Faithful Inn near the Old Faithful geyser.

Part of the next day was spent touring further south in Grand Teton National Park, where more wildlife was spotted.

After we left the park, we drove through Cody, WY and spent quite a bit of time at this Buffalo Bill Historical Center, which has grown dramatically since I last visited.

We chose to drive to Sheridan, WY via the US Highway 14 Alternate route, which gave us a chance to drive up a somewhat scary gravel road to the Medicine Wheel site at an altitude of about 9,600 feet.

Later we enjoyed libations in Sheridan.
