Refueling

One of the reasons I like these cruises is that I am completely fascinated by all of these big machines, their maneuvering, the harbor activities, and the like. You may have seen my prior posting of one of the pilot ships, for example. Yesterday, after we returned from our tour of Melbourne, I watched as a ship came alongside to refuel our vessel. There is so much involved with maneuvering to tie alongside, to distribute the refueling lines, and then after the refueling is done, to disconnect and move away.

There are lots of activities aboard. We are at sea today, and we are going to hear a lecture entitled "How Ships Move." Then in two more days time, we have signed up for a behind-the-scenes tour of the engine control room, the bridge, and some of the other areas like the kitchens and entertainment areas.
